Position Overview:

The Deanship of Research and Graduate Studies at Ajman University invites applications for a full-time/adjunct position (Animal Facility Research Technician). The successful candidate will oversee the daily operations of the animal research facility, ensure compliance with institutional and international standards of animal care, and provide technical support to researchers. This role combines supervisory duties with hands-on expertise in animal husbandry and experimental procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Oversee animal housing, feeding, health monitoring and breeding to ensure high standards of animal welfare.
2. Supervise day-to-day operations of the facility, ensuring cleanliness, sanitation, and biosecurity.
3. Maintain equipment and coordinate with vendors for repair and servicing.
4. Manage breeding programs, including record-keeping of mating, pregnancies, litters, and genetic lines.
5. Ensure accurate record-keeping of animal inventories, health checks, and facility logs.
6. Assist researchers with animal handling, dosing, surgical support, and sample collection.
7. Provide training to students, staff, and researchers in proper animal care and use procedures.
8. Support research documentation and ensure compliance with approved study protocols.
9. Ensure adherence to Institutional Research Ethics Committee and ethical standards.
10. Prepare for internal and external inspections, audits, and accreditation processes.
11. Maintain and update Standard Operating Procedures.
12. Manage procurement and inventory of animal feed, bedding, and facility supplies.
13. Monitor efficient use of resources in line with the approved budget.
14. Conduct orientation and workshops on animal facility regulations and welfare standards.

Qualifications, Skills and Competencies:

1. A bachelor’s degree in Veterinary science, Animal Science, Biology, or a related discipline (Master’s degree preferred).
2. Minimum 2–3 years of experience in laboratory animal facility management or research.
3. Strong knowledge of laboratory animal husbandry and ethical standards in research.
4. Proven experience in handling animals and supporting experimental procedures.
5. Familiarity with international guidelines for laboratory animal care and use.
6. Strong organizational and supervisory skills.
7. Technical expertise in animal research methodologies.
8. Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities.
9. Commitment to professional ethics and responsible conduct of research.
