ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: 

• Conduct psychological assessments to identify individual needs and provide appropriate support plans.
• Provide individual and group counseling sessions to students and individuals with disabilities, addressing issues related to mental health, emotional well-being, academic stress, and personal development.
• Develop and implement tailored psychological interventions and support plans for students with varying levels of abilities.
• Use evidence-based therapeutic approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), psychotherapy, and mindfulness-based stress reduction techniques to assist students.
• Monitor and evaluate the progress of students, adjusting therapeutic strategies as needed.
• Collaborate with other departments, academic staff, and external specialists to ensure comprehensive care and support.
• Promote a culture of inclusivity and well-being across the university, ensuring that psychological services are accessible to all students, especially those with disabilities.
• Advise on mental health accommodations and support for students with disabilities.
• Facilitate workshops, seminars, and support groups to raise awareness about mental health issues, coping strategies, and self-care.
• Work closely with faculty, academic advisors, and student services to ensure holistic support for students.
• Collaborate with external mental health professionals, including psychiatrists and social workers, when needed.
• Maintain open communication with students’ families, respecting confidentiality and ensuring appropriate support.
• Maintain detailed and confidential records of counseling sessions, assessments, and interventions.
• Participate in regular meetings with the Center for Inclusive Learning team to review cases and develop strategies for enhancing student well-being.
• Deliver a variety of services including academic accommodations, personal support, assistive technology, and learning accessibility.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

• Master’s in Special Education, Psychology, Counselling, or a related field, PhD’s degree is preferred.
• Valid certification or license in psychological counseling or therapy.
• Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in psychological counseling, preferably with individuals with disabilities or special needs.
• Experience working in a university setting or educational institution is highly desirable.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:

• Strong knowledge of various therapeutic approaches and mental health interventions.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and active listening skills.
• Ability to work effectively with a diverse population, including individuals with physical and cognitive disability, and emotional disturbance.
• Proficiency in conducting assessments and developing individualized treatment plans.
• Ability to manage sensitive issues with tact, empathy, and cultural awareness.
• Fluency in both Arabic and English.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

• Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
• Limited physical effort is required.
• No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
