Secondary Art Teacher Full Time

• Plan and deliver engaging and age-appropriate art lessons in alignment with the school’s curriculum and standards.

• Teach a variety of art techniques and mediums, including drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, digital art, and mixed media.

• Foster a safe, inclusive, and stimulating classroom environment that encourages artistic expression and exploration.

• Assess, monitor, and report on student progress through portfolios, presentations, and exhibitions.

• Maintain and organize art supplies and classroom materials efficiently and within budget.

• Integrate art history and contemporary art practices to broaden student understanding and appreciation.

• Support students in preparing artwork for school displays, exhibitions, competitions, and community projects.

• Collaborate with other faculty and contribute to cross-curricular projects and school-wide events.

• Participate in department meetings, parent-teacher conferences, and professional development activities.

• Uphold school policies and promote positive behavior and classroom management.

• 1. Deliver the required curriculum, demonstrating accurate and up to date knowledge of curriculum and subject matter.
  2. Plan and deliver quality lessons to motivate students. Create and utilize appropriate materials and the classroom environment to cater for different learning styles.
  3. Show written evidence of planning and preparation on request. Establish and maintain records of curriculum and year plans, attendance, teaching resources, assessment plans etc.
  4. Ensure the GEMS policies, procedures, and codes of conduct are followed at all times.
  5. Teach students assigned according to their individual needs using appropriate teaching strategies that meet student needs and abilities eg late-entering students, ESL, low academic ability, gifted and talented etc.
  6. Set and mark work. Assess, record and report on the academic development, progress and attainment of students and use assessment to ensure the curriculum meets the individual student’s needs.
  7. Display competence in using media and technology in the classroom.
  8. Promote the general progress and well-being of students and provide guidance to students on educational matters.
  9. Communicate with persons outside the school where appropriate (eg Ministry of Education officials).
  10. Participate in appraisal and Performance Management procedures and Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
  11. Work alongside colleagues on the preparation and development of teaching materials, resources, courses of study and pastoral arrangements.
  12. Participate in, and lead where appropriate, the co-curricular and extra-curricular programmes in the school. Promote good working relationships through active leadership and sharing of ideas, materials and experiences.
  13. Monitor and supervise safe and appropriate student behavior. Plan and implement strategies to encourage self-discipline and manage disruptive behavior.
  14. Model and encourage cultural awareness and understanding and promote a love of learning.
  15. Assist in the planning and organizing of school events and functions (eg inter-house competitions, concerts, school plays, prize days etc).
  16. Communicate and meet with parents regularly promoting the GEMS philosophy and core values; keep parents regularly informed of students’ progress while respecting the confidentiality of student-related information.
  17. Initiate effort and energy beyond the typical work day, where the tasks require additional commitment.
  18. Attend staff meetings and serve on committees as required.
  19. Perform other duties as requested by direct & dotted reporting line managers / supervisors.
