Core Accountabilities
• Perform tests of weapons submitted in order to produce reliable and precise data to support scientific investigations and support.
• Conduct daily testing safety meetings to ensure that all members of the test are fully aware of safety conditions, procedures and protocols.
• Carefully and accurately evaluates, documents, and quantifies all areas of performance of prototype, pre-production, and production weapons.
• Attend mock-up checks of products under development to ensure suitable ergonomics and acceptable functional design.
• Carryout the Accessories Testing Group in the evaluation of accessory products installed on weapons and the effect that those parts have on the dynamics of the weapons.
• Perform mechanical work during testing as required including replacing various parts as necessary for evaluation testing purposes.
• Carryout the preventative maintenance and service on department and test units as necessary including cleaning, lubricating and replacing worn or damaged parts.
• Maintain a working knowledge of Caracal’s and competitive unit’s technological and mechanical advances.
• Attend and/or support with all types of consumer research events including focus groups, one-on-one interviews, and “demonstration” events;
• Periodically participate in events to maintain the physical and mental skill level necessary to perform product evaluation and endurance testing.
Experience & Educational Qualifications
• Diploma in Engineering (Mechanical / Production).
• 3-5 years of experience in weapons test or test lab.
• Experience in formal weapons test programs, understanding of building written testing protocols, and test plans, gathering all and reporting all data delivered for the individual tests.
• Understanding of computer-aided design and metalworking preferred.
• Understands military standard requirements and test protocols.
• Proven ability to gather and analyze information skillfully and generate creative solutions while completing test projects on time and budget.
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures or governmental regulations (CIP, NATO SAAMI preferred).
• Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers and/or clients.
Key Skills
• Familiar with testing methods in accordance with most applicable military standards.
• Knowledge of firearms and systems accessories’ safety, ergonomics, functional and performance requirements.
• Excellent manual dexterity
