Principal Aerodynamics Engineer Full Time

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct aerodynamic design, analysis, and optimization of unmanned air vehicles.
• Apply both low- and high-fidelity aerodynamic analysis methods, contributing to tool development.
• Perform aircraft optimization studies across multiple design parameters.
• Compile aerodynamic databases using data from CFD, wind tunnel tests, and empirical models.
• Plan, execute, and analyze Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations to support design and validation efforts.
• Contribute to the planning and execution of wind tunnel testing campaigns.
• Collaborate with hardware and design engineers to ensure aero surfaces meet design and performance requirements.
• Manage assigned tasks effectively, meeting deadlines and adhering to budget constraints.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Aeronautical, Mechanical, or Aerospace Engineering (Master’s preferred).
• 5–7 years of experience in aerodynamic design and optimization within the aerospace industry (10+ years is advantageous).
• Strong programming skills in Python or Bash for process automation.
• Deep understanding of aerodynamic principles, including Navier-Stokes, Reynolds, laminar and turbulent boundary layers.
• Solid knowledge of CFD methods: Vortex Lattice, Boundary Layer Methods, RANS, and turbulence models (knowledge of Lattice Boltzmann, DDES, WMLES, and Blade Element Momentum Theory is a plus).
• Experience with aircraft sizing, trade studies, and multidisciplinary design optimization (MDO).
• Familiarity with the full aircraft design lifecycle (conceptual, preliminary, and detail phases).
• Awareness of regulatory frameworks such as Part 23, Part 25, and AEP 4671 (preferred).
• Relevant aerodynamic, CFD, or optimization certifications are a plus.
